Circular collection

This collection applies the principles of the circular economy, including materials, techniques (design for disassembly and zero waste pattern cutting), use (washing) and service (information to the customer on care, repair and disposal).

It was created following the Textiles and Apparel Design Fund (Circular Economy) award by Zero Waste Scotland.

The outcome of this project is a capsule collection of luxury womenswear garments addressing the following:

  • Modularity / multifunctionality
  • Zero waste pattern design
  • Design for durability and to reduce the need to consume
  • Potential use of recycled materials or materials that would go to waste

All garments are modular and/or transformable to allow the wearer to use them in different ways which will encourage them to keep them for longer. The garments are also be suitable for different climates, adapting to cold, mild and warm temperatures.

This approach addresses two conflicting needs:

  1. to reduce waste and excessive consumption (zero waste pattern design, design for durability, recycled/upcycled materials)
  2. to meet the traditional seasonality of fashion: modular and transformable garments can provide variation in the wearer’s wardrobe rather than satisfying the need by buying new clothes.

  The collection includes:

  • Modular top, skirt and base layer: a series of garments (tops, skirts and base layers) that can be combined and layered. It is an entire wardrobe in one item and the consumer is invited to partially influence the design by customising it at the time of buying, selecting different skirts and base layers and therefore creating a nearly unique garment.
  • Transformable coat/jacket: this can be transformed to be long (coat) or short (jacket), with detachable padded lining which can be used as a jacket on its own and with detachable hood.

The design of the collection is inspired by allenomis’ previous designs and improved by adding zero waste pattern design, adjustable sizes, recycled and end of roll materials plus eco-friendly materials. The intent is to build on the previous experience, adding even more value to the garments and increase the potential to reduce waste and the need to buy.
